In this 9th grade class (typically ages 14-15 years old), read a mix of fiction and nonfiction while learning various literary terms and techniques. Students learn about systemic racism, mythology, rhetoric, and elements of drama. Grammar and mechanics lessons focus primarily on parts of speech and sentence structure, as well as the proper use of these concepts in technical writing. Additionally, students write an analytical paper, opinion editorial, and myth. This is a small-group class that requires active participation in discussions and significant time completing writing assignments.
