Food Services Assistant (Food Service Assistant)

The incumbent is responsible for clerical and budgeting duties as assigned by the Food Service Administrator. The incumbent is expected to apply a working knowledge of policies and procedures as related to this office and the food service aspect of the institution. Types and proof reads a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written material. Gathers basic data for Food Service research. Enters and retrieves data, using Food Service programs, on a personal computer and maintains disks with back-up copies. Utilizes electronic systems equipment in data transmission as related to Food Service activities. Maintains systematic files, ledgers, stock index records, inventory accountability procedures through posting receivers. Issuing subsistence, using First-In First-Out (FIFO) rotation for daily inventory accountability. Checks compliance and accuracy of receivers against purchase requests and purchase orders when received to ensure receivers are complete. Documents partial shipments until fulfilled, maintains a running accountability of each item with correct FIFO procedures. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. OR Experience You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are listed per grade:
Experience that provided a basic knowledge of arithmetic and the ability to perform responsibilities associated with tracking and maintaining budget, stock records and logs. Experience recording and transcribing minutes of various meetings, and compiling minutes for distribution. Experience utilizing a financial management budget computer program, coordinating budget data and information and keeping an updated budget account for the department. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
