Manufacturing Engineer (Entry Level)

Position Overview The 3D Systems site in Littleton, Colorado is expanding rapidly and needs a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to augment the existing Manufacturing Engineering team under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
The mission of the Manufacturing Engineering team is to develop and sustain manufacturing processes, both in-house and out-sourced, to improve cost, quality, capacity, and technical capability.
Organization As part of the Healthcare unit of 3D Systems, the Littleton facility manufactures 3D Systems Personalized Healthcare Services products and also acts as a contract manufacturer to customers in medical, dental, aerospace/defense, and other industries.
We are experts in digital workflows, patient-specific medical devices, and five different kinds of 3D printing.
The Manufacturing Engineering team supports all manufacturing activities at the Littleton facility.
The teams expertise spans both plastic and metal additive manufacturing, and related post-processing.
Performance Objectives The following performance objectives will determine job success for this position:
1.
Develop and Improve Manufacturing Processes :
Serve the manufacturing production team by improving existing processes and augmenting capabilities with new processes.
Specify, justify financially, develop, and implement new machines and equipment to increase capacity or reduce labor.
Participate in process validation as necessary.
Create visual work instructions for new production, inspection, and equipment maintenance processes.
2.
Resolve technical issues:
Keep the production floor running by addressing urgent and long-term issues.
Document the results of investigations and resolutions through the CAPA, NMR, or Deviation processes.
3.
Improve Supplier Performance :
Work with existing suppliers to reduce lead time, increase efficiency, and improve quality.
Perform technical evaluation of new candidate suppliers to ensure they have technical competence, customer service capability, and volume capacity to meet 3D Systems needs.
4.
Reduce Scrap :
Use existing scrap tracking information to analyze data, identify opportunities for improvement, andlead cross-functional efforts with Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to reduce scrap in additive manufacturing.
5.
Interface with Customers :
Participate in customer project meetings, coordinate information gathering, and assist in internal efforts to implement changes and improvements as required.
Participate in complaint investigations.
Coordinate with customer stakeholders to optimize quality, capacity, and cost.
6.
Upgrade and maintain documentation for existing products :
Convert existing work instructions to visual format.
Create Technical Process Specifications for outside supplier processes.
Revise and create material specifications as needed by manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain.
Implement all changes via the released change order system.
7.
Re-design Business Processes :
Refine processes for business processes that may not be tied to production, but which do affect the manufacturing organization as a whole.
Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to determine the problem or opportunity, design the solution, and implement structural, procedural, and documentation changes to realize the benefit of the change.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering field is required (e.
g.
, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering).
Knowledge, Skills,
Experience:
o 0-2 years of experience supporting manufacturing operations, preferably in the medical device industry under FDA/ISO 13485 design controls, or equivalent internship or university coursework experience.
Candidates should be comfortable working in the methodical, structured, and well-documented manner expected in a highly-regulated industry.
o Solid understanding and background in core manufacturing engineering fundamentals, such as process development and improvement, light design work, data analysis, statistics, testing/inspection, supplier interaction, structured problem solving tools, change control, and process validation o Experience working in a cross-functional environment will be essential to your ability to function effectively at 3D Systems.
Compensation and
Benefits:
Salary Range:
$60,000 - $71,000 per year (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate, and alignment with market data) In addition to a salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus based upon company performance.
